Meet Julie

Julie Midura is an avid hiker, backpacker and aspiring Appalachian Trail thru hiker. She volunteers as a trail adopter for the U.S. Forest Service, and is a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, the White Mountain Four Thousand  Footer Club, and the New England Four Thousand Footer Club.  Together with her husband Tom, she has climbed all sixty-seven of New England’s tallest mountain peaks while over the age of fifty. In 2022, Julie and Tom completed winter hikes of the forty-eight highest peaks in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Since 2019, the couple has backpacked through the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont on the Appalachian Trail.

In addition to hiking, Julie is a passionate reader and story-teller. She has dreamed of writing a book since she wrote her first short story in fifth grade. In 2019, Julie was able to blend her love of hiking with her passion for writing by becoming a guest columnist for Turley Publications, a weekly newspaper in her region. Julie was named as the grand prize winner of a national writing contest, Share Your Story, sponsored by Recreation.gov in 2021.

When she’s not hiking, Julie can be found studying maps for her next hiking adventure, reading books about hiking, or daydreaming about hiking. Julie and Tom reside in Western Massachusetts, but call the wilderness their home.

More Than the Mountain is Julie’s debut memoir.
